All about house plants

The homestead does not start with the outdoors. Growing plants inside is possible. There are tons of benefits to having house plants through your living space.

Of course, you could also grow herbs inside all year, which is what I do. Herbs are easy greenery that you can just trim off what you need and it will keep growing!

When it comes to other house plants. There are some that are edible, some that are not, and some that are just fun to look at. It is important to know your plants. Especially if you have pets.

Some benefits of house plants include air quality. I have noticed, if you have an older home, there may be a musky dusty smell, having house plants may actually combat this. They naturally clean the air when they go through photosynthesis. Also, they can add color, and texture to your space. If you care about that sort of thing.

One of the biggest hangups for people not wanting house plants is they always die. There are some house plants that are easy to take care of, and others that are super finicky. You do not need to go to the extreme and treat your plants like pets. There are plenty of house plants that are easy to grow.

Plants that are labeled low light are usually the easiest for beginners. These plants like snake plants require little attention to flourish. In fact, they like to be left alone. You only have to water once or twice a month.

There are others like succulents that need a lot of light to grow. These can be positioned in front of a window that is either north or south. (This will give the most sunlight through the day)

It is important to keep your plant in a good suitable pot. Any pot without a hole in the bottom is a big no no. Especially being indoors, the water needs to have drainage. If not, that is how roots rot and mold. Also, plants grow. Some faster than others. So putting your plant in a pot that a plant can grow with will help with the root structure so you won’t break the roots through transplanting.

Having indoor plants has many benefits and very little downfalls. It is an easy and cheap way to bring nature inside. And of course, if you need a new pot, check out my store!
